A day in the life of a London PR agency

Sarah Attwood, an intern with the External Relations team at IBM decided to join Text 100 UK to experience a ‘day in the life of a PR agency’. Unsure about which side of PR to pursue, the day at Text 100 gave her a good insight into the creative and variety available agency side – below is a post Sarah wrote about her experience with us:

Today, I visited the Text 100 offices in London to gain an insight on the agency side of PR. I currently work as an intern for IBM UK as a press and PR assistant, so I was interested to see how the agency side of PR was different in comparison to in-house PR.

My day started with a tour of the offices, followed with introductions of the PR team – although straight away I recognised some faces from previous meetings with IBM and Text 100. Everyone was very friendly and I felt at ease as I settled into the office.

I then did some research for the team, linking in to some of the work I had already done for IBM. Because I had the background knowledge from IBM, I was able to find information quickly. As well as this, during the day I took part in an IBM call and shadowed some film editing which was really interesting.

The main difference that I noticed, was that a PR agency is more diverse than in-house PR, due to working with several clients rather than just one. Because of this, each day is different. I really liked this factor about Text, as well as a PR agency being fast paced.

After being at the office today, I could understand the Text 100 side of PR and it was interesting to see their take on things. The work is similar to what I do at IBM. I support the team by researching, helping to pitch, helping to film and much more. I could really see where Text come in and help support the IBM press team, for example with upcoming events and announcements.

My perceptions of a PR agency haven’t changed too much after visiting Text 100. I knew it would be different, but it was nice to see a PR agency in action so I could get a real feel for the behind the scenes work. After coming here, I would definitely consider coming back as this visit has confirmed how much I like PR within an agency environment.
